We're sunk.

Hey, Mr Rot, you're so taken with your prediction that you posted it twice?

Reaction: the square-jawed congressman is viewed as a bridge between the buttoned-up GOP establishment and the riled-up tea party movement.

Hmmm. I remember walking a few weeks back with AA down the Freedom Trail, and telling him I thought Ryan should (and will) be Romey's VP pick. AA seemed rather non-commital: not enthusiastic (duh..), but not hopping mad, either. Will he warm up now, just a tad, and give the guy a chance? We'll see.

As for Herr Rott? Well, as is his wont, he only looks at things superficially. Like, who's a dweeb and who's cool. Sort of like a 16-year old Valley Girl would. Which makes sense, in a sort of convoluted way.

Tecs, I'm chastened at your effort to return me to the fold of the thinking conservative creed. It is odd, however, that the deep thinker that went on for weeks with "Yeee-Haaah, fryin' chickens in the barn!" would be a Bible-thumper for cool reflection.
Or perhaps Tecs' education neglected to mention the term,"duumvirate," on which I played in the title, teaching instead the term "dumbvirate," which would be Tecs' preferred system of governance, obviously, being as it would be, more representative.
Understanding madmen or women is a tough tally.
I stand corrected, or something, but let us reflect a bit that back in the prehistory of this sad election, you had your Romney pom-poms picked out and your cheerleader skirt cut and dyed. What a catastrophe this will turn out to be, and it is your fault, Tecs.

Mr Rot, your thoughtful response (yes, I mean it!) merits a detailed answer. I gotta run now, though, so here's a quick reaction:

* Duumvirate: that masterful word play totally flew over my head, I must confess. OK, add a magnum VCP on the tab. You really nailed me with that one.

* I reserve my "Yeee-Haaah, fryin' chickens in the barn!" tirades for when discussing Coanda jet fighters, or MOAB bombs. When it comes to elections, at least nowadays (it was a different ballgame when the Cold War was raging), I'm more interested in who's keep things working reasonably well, and not lead us the Pepe way.

* Andrea Mitchell sums it up for you.

Not over your head, just past your quick view. I realized when I reread the post that it is tough to see the difference between the two words you swapped. No VCP, this time.

Me: Sadly, I must agree with you, and in your realization that times have changed.

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be.
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go
I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play,
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Why’d she have to go?
I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

You quoting the Beatles now, Mr Rot? Yes, it's a different ball game now. Look no further than the slow-mo economic train wreck in Southern Europe, or in California.

I suggest that we move to Romania, live on welfare and petty theft, and gawk at killer Dacian babes.

As I said, I like Ryan's thoughts on economics, and I do believe he has the courage of his convictions. For him to play a prominent role on Romney's team makes very good sense. However, as a national candidate, there is too much overlap with Romney for him to offer much gain in advantage. He will be a better spokesman for what Romney claims to be for, as far as economics goes. So he will do what Romney should have been able to do if he had been a candidate genuinely worth his salt. But Romney, except for economics, seems to suffer deeply from the Bushian Syndrome [that "Lack of Vision" thing], and, except for economics, I don't see how Ryan improves that Vision.
Two heads, instead of one, going around on how "we'll work better", when the nation is at an existential pivot point, is really really unclear on the concept. The sort of unclear that only the Establishment, or the Ivy beLeague'red could be fool enough to tale for azure skies on a summer's day.

Mr roT said...

Ivy beLeague'red. Awesome, AA. Add another VCP to you from Tecs.

Tecumseh said...

You got a point AA, which I can't quite refute. Basically, if I understand correctly what you're saying, Romney+Ryan=what Romney himself should have been, in which case he coulda gone for someone more exotic and/or complimentary. But hey, you do the best you can, with the hand you're dealt with.

Mr roT said...

If Ryan were a chick that bikini'd well, then that would be another thing.

Arelcao Akleos said...

We'll see if that hand can win the game.....It's a bit like having an 8 and a hidden 6 in a game of 21. You just gotta hope the House Dealer panics and breaks.

Where's the obligatory picture, AA?

Picture of what?

Dacian babes, duh.
