Anniversary Approaching: Time to Think About What We're Going to Say

I'm sure you guys have seen this (click on link). If so, gimme your thoughts. If not, well, then here's the heads up. The press that published it is the mighty U of Chicago.

Binnie bites the dust

Shot in the head by the CIA/Special Forces in a mansion outside Islamabad? Boy, that's something.

Quick, get Hölder to Mirandize this guy

Good coverage here, and wonderful comments. I say we let him go free! He'll like us then.

Yet another warning ignored

The graph is totally disconnected. Two individuals, both well-known members of extremist forums, according to Aviran, have been leading these discussions which include the use of Botulinum toxin. Botulinum is one of the deadliest substances known to mankind. Ouzo will cure it.

Rehab center for AQ guys

Said Ali al Shihri -- a former Guantanamo Bay detainee who now heads the terror group al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula -- obviously didn't get to the bottom of his America-hating issues while undergoing the controversial rehab for jihadists. Inmates like Shihri are supposed to while away the days playing ping-pong, PlayStation and soccer in hopes that the peaceful environment will help them cope with their jihadist rages. Sounds like the therapy was designed by Pepe. It's working wonders.

Begging the question

Begg [Mutallab's buddy from London] currently stars in an anti-American propaganda film on the ACLU's web site and regularly writes op-eds for Western newspapers. One well-known journalist here in the United States, David Ignatius of the Washington Post, even wrote a fawning forward for Begg's self-serving book, Enemy Combatant.

Begg and Abdulmutallab also share another jihadist connection: Anwar al Awlaki, the al Qaeda cleric who was a "spiritual advisor" for at least two of the 9/11 hijackers and counseled the Fort Hood shooter. Begg has been one of Awlaki's most vocal backers.

As Paul Rester, the director of the Joint Intelligence Group at Guantanamo, explained, "[Begg] is doing more good for al Qaeda as a British poster boy than he would ever do carrying an AK-47."

Why not lock up all these AQ guys, and send them back to Gitmo? Am I being too knuckledragging simplistic?

Is Al-Zawahiri talking to Pepe?

Catch and release

Gitmo guys #333 (Muhammad Attik al-Harbi) and #372 (Said Ali al-Shihri) back at work. Planet Pepe ululates.

The beat goes on

Eight US civilians killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. A "civilian surge" was one of the three core elements of the new US strategy for Afghanistan announced by US President Barack Obama at the beginning of the month. How is this supposed to help eradicate AQ?

Update. Further update: the bomber was being courted as an informant and was not frisked as he entered the base. Why not? Not. Rocket. Science.

Another update: Here is a pic of Jalaluddin Haqqani. The CIA helped him in the 1980s resist the Soviets. Now he's blowing up our boys. And we're fighting by Marquess of Queensberry rules. Of course.

From Gitmo to the "art therapy rehabilitation program"

Which, translated into plain English, means training and supplying Abdul with PETN-lined underwear. That's artsy-fartsy!

Firecrackers for Christmas

A thread I started (while Herr Rot was fast asleep at the wheel, though he woke up at some point).

Update: The man who saved the plane. Satnav for terrorists?

Connecting the dots? You kiddin' me? That's too complicated.
