Lowering the bar

From comments: Palin is a blank slate onto which all sorts of different people are projecting their own dreams. She's very much like (pre-election) Obama in that respect.

Your standard-issue Rotterian candidate

Wiki: She left college to help out on the family farm after her father, Ron Arnold, was killed by being sucked into a grain bin. ... Noem has received more than 20 speeding tickets over the past 21 years. The report stated Noem had incurred three stop sign violations, two seat belt violations, no driver's license, six notices for failure to appear in court and two arrest warrants. Of her driving record, Noem said "I'm not proud of my driving record but I [sic] been working hard to be a better example to young kids and young drivers out there." Herr Rot at the wheel.

Krystal having a ball with der Rotter's rote Nase

Krystal Ball's response is to pull a Palin: "It's incredibly sexist" and "outrageous" that these pictures have emerged. She continues: "I'm angry at the way women in this country are unfairly treated in this regard when they step up and run for office." Because if a man sucked a rubber dick attached to the nose of another man, we would never publish that picture. Besides! What if we like politicians who pose with red dildos in their mouths, hmm?

RUGURGE: Krystal speaks now that she took that thing out of her mouth. Funny, I know a physicist that named his daughter Krystal too. I thought it was pretty stupid at the time also.

Verbal diarrhea

My concern has been the atrocities there in Darfur and the relevance to me with that issue as we spoke about Africa and some of the countries there that were kind of the people succumbing to the dictators and the corruption of some collapsed governments on the continent, the relevance was Alaska’s investment in Darfur with some of our permanent fund dollars.

And, she concluded, “never, ever did I talk about, well, gee, is it a country or a continent, I just don’t know about this issue.”

It’s admittedly a rare gift to produce a paragraph in which whole clumps of words could be removed without noticeably affecting the sense, if any.

Blabbering nabobs of positivism

JJ's heartthrob expounds on economics: That's why I say I, like every American I'm speaking with, we're ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health-care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the -- it's got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health-care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing. But one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we've got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

Can she hack it?

She was the antithesis and nemesis of the hirsute, Birkenstock-wearing sisterhood. Youpie doo. Quick study or not, she doesn’t know enough about economics and foreign policy to make Americans comfortable with a President Palin should conditions warrant her promotion. You don't say. If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself. Do it, do it. Poignant.

Nookular combat toe to toe with the Roosskies

Palin can see those Roosskies from her house. Is she gonna do something about them coming to git Alaska?

Anne Applebaum on meth

Following the failure of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, Palin is suddenly, and flamboyantly, the most prominent female politician in the country. Is everyone becoming a JJ clone?

Anyone wanna bet?

I'll be a sport, and put $1 on this, at the current 12%-88% odds from Intrade. And guess who'll be the safe choice, then? Someone who was thoroughly vetted, and who has proved his mettle in the primaries. Any takers?

A warm bucket of spit

Finally, a mature assessment from NRO; after the first flush of excitement, reality starts to sink in. McCain is essentially telling the world that he doesn't really need a Vice President. It is hard to imagine Palin playing the same sort of role that modern Vice Presidents like Gore, Bush, Cheney, or Mondale played. Rather, the Office would seem poised to return to the "proverbial warm bucket of p***" category. McCain has thus made a purely political play without regard for the governance concerns.
