Reconsidering Newt

Newt would, of course, be a much more dangerous opponent for Obama than Romney... and he has the capacity to say he was wrong about his earlier endorsement of varieties of socialized health care, whereas Romney is taking that albatross around his neck and making sweet lovin' with it.
But I'd be very surprised if his campaign rose back up to the lead... too late in getting organized, and "blessed" with an establishment gaggle that loathes the crap out of him.

True enough. But, equally true, Newt is not good at running the nuts and bolts of a national campaign. Sounds trivial, perhaps, but its not. Can't just win a campaign on the vision thing.

Unfortunately people who have no conception of the vision thing, even when it is of critical importance, are pretty often blessed with a cohort of likeminded souls good at nuts and bolts of a campaign.

Right. Eg, Papa Bush was famous for lacking the vision thing, but then again, he had Lee Atwater to run the campaign for him. Same with Bush Jr and Karl Rove.

But, eg, Mac had neither the vision thing, nor the nuts & bolts guys to make a run at it. That's the worst possible combination.
