Warm up act in Portland

Pepe posted some moving pics of his hero mixing with the masses the other day, on the Willamette river banks. What he forgot to tell us is that the crowd had been warmed up by a local band, whose stock-in-trade is to start their act with a rendition of the Soviet national anthem. Finally, an anthem Pepe can salute, and come to attention to, when played.

Oh, like did they step on a flag or something really serious, dude? The schmucks in Katyn had it coming and it was all Poland's fault anyway.

A reader comments on Pat's article: I agree completely except your bringing up Yalta. Often derided by people who say FDR should have played hardball with Stalin, the Us position was a weak one. The Russians were already across the Odor [sic!] River, In Czechoslovakia and seeing as how Romania had invaded Russia earlier there was simply no way Russia was going to let that little country walk away a freedom loving democracy. All things being equal, FDR got the best deal he could, given the circumstances. Nathan, Seattle

Bring Le Cirque du Soleil, as Pepe may say in a moment of lucidity.

How about Obama picking Buchanan for the ultimate crossover nightmare ticket.
