God Really Listens to His Dear Pepe

As if handing Pinochet's heart to Pepe on a platter was not enough, the Big 'Un has now added the Archangel Chavez to Pepe's cornucopia. How long before Le Pew and Hugo are doing the "Ricains Be Devils" rap on YouTube?

"We have shown that Venezuela is red! ... No one should fear socialism... Socialism is human. Socialism is love."

Hmmm, wasn't the world, or Eurasia, promised something similar, but in different flavors and in the 1910s and 1930s?

You guys are too much - you cry for the wonders of democracy when it's in iraq but have no problem with pino overthrowing democratically elected allende, and
probably anyone doing the same to chavez who is about to be re-elected.

Your commitment to democracy seems to be that you're all for it, as long as they vote for your guy - is that a fair statement ?

Whoa, Pepe, that's deep. How about we turn this theoretical model around and use it on you too? There we go. A couple nudges. Okay: got it pointed at the Big Easy now. Let's see how it looks: "Pepe's commitment to democracy seems to be that you're all for it, as long as they vote for Pepe's guy..." Wow. Look at that. The application is broader than you expected, isn't it.

So an Act of God giving Pepe his Divine Mercy is just another gift horse for Le Pew to look in the mouth? Such ingratitude.
Now, why exactly are you bitching about democracy in this moment of your Hero's triumph? Didn't Hugo just shut down all nongovernmet press [actually, he did so before the vote count started]? Now, if that isn't Democracy, what is?
Now go out again, to those now starry skies above Prytania, and go down on your knees and sing out " Thank Ye, Sweeeet Baby Jaysus, Thank Ye for Smiting My Foes and Bringing Red, Red Love to This Ricain infested World"
But, as that would be in the Big Easy, best you not stay on your knees for too long.

mft - i don't see how your statement is a counter to the fact that your support for pino's overthrowing democratically elected allende shows that you are just offering lip service to support for democracy. And I don't see how you are turning it back at me. Could you explain ?

Pepe, I don't see how your athiest ethos allows you to support a candidate like Chavez, a man who interjects God and the Devil regularly into his political rhetoric.

Your question is silly, and mere rhetoric too Pepe. If you haven't seen it by now, then, well, I guess the French aren't as philosophically endowed as they've been made out to be.

Eh, If you scan back what MFT said through this blog, I doubt very much he ever said he "supported the overthrow of Allende's democratically elected government".
Now, I might have said I supported the overthrow of Hitler's democratically elected government. I do believe his second round was even more fulsomely one sided than Hugo's last night, although he had rid himself of the free press earlier than election's eve [Hugo may be slow, but at least he got there].
All that was said here about Pinochet, but it was a big all, was that if one was stuck with a dictator, better one who seriously sought to build a good economy, and then ceded power back to democracy, like Pinochet, than one who built only the glories of socialism and ceded power back over his dead body, like Fidel. Then it was noted the irony of Pepe calling himself "liberal, and a "democrat", while salivating over Fidel, who shat on democracy all his life, to the same degree he had the shivers and hives at the mention of August, who at least had the grace to cede his powers to democracy.
Oh, yes,Pinochet is estimated, by his fiercest critics, to have murdered about 20,000 souls. A Devil, even if he ended up being a wuss among Dictators. Fidel was much more worthy, with his gentlest critics grudgingly admitting at least 100,000 dead. This is, courteously, omitting political prisoners not killed. Admirably not a wuss. Still, one wonders, again, how does Pepe with a straight face call himself a "democrat" while so much loving his matching Red and Brown Socs.

Elaborating on Hugo's quote: we should fear Socialism because it is human, and we know exactly what humans are capable of. We also know what "love" can do too — Stalin was human, and he loved Russia. Hitler was human, and he loved Germany. Mussolini was human, and he loved Italia.

In short, Pepe: Venezuala is a pretty screwed up place these days. My original remarks had more to do with Pepe supporting whoever hated Bush the most, and me supporting the lesser of the evils who might — as of today, right now, with the evidence at hand — appear more likely to help the people of Venezuela. The 20th century alone should warn us enough of the dangers inherent in backing leaders who claim they are uniting a country under the banner of National Socialism. I hope Hugo leads his country in the direction they want it to go, and I do believe in that old Menckenism: "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

...Now we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

focus alert ???

Focus alert? Is this how you want me to address the contradictions that you find in my own Libertarian ethos from now on? Again, the French are lax when it comes to philosophy. You've got quite the mythical little worldview down there in the Big Easy, Pepe.

Let Pepe salivate at the prospect of yet another commie dictator in the Western Hemisphere -- one in the mold of Uncle Joe and l'Infidel Castré. When men were men, that would have been inacceptable. Now, with the US electorate more in a pinko-French mood than in a stand-up-and-fight mood, this is gonna go through like shit through a goose's innards. Be that as it may, to have on top of things a commie-lover sneeringly giving lessons in democracy is just too rich.
