Amid the debris of human lives caught up in these idiocies, you can also find the ruins of an indispensable element of civilized society: a sense of proportion. That's long gone, like the dodo bird.

A sense of proportion..... maybe the heart of what was once meant by "common sense".
I can tell you that, where I teach at, it barely exists as memory.

Yes -- it's something hard to define, but most everyone who knows what "sense of decency" means would understand. Unfortunately, the memory of such concepts is fading fast. JJ knows what I'm talking about...
