Though the favorite option of the pinko-Left in this case is the stony silence (as Taranto says), I bet that on the far fringes of the hungry-for-blood planeteers, they really love this.

Minimizing? How so? Torture is horrible. And there are scales in horror, like circles in the Inferno. Having a pair of undies on one's head is out there in the n-th circle. Having eyes gauged out, and hand hacked out with a hacksaw is closer to the first circle. But for people who bandy about Bush=Hitler equations without batting an eyelid, distinctions such as these are of course not apparent. Talk about minimizing evil! The Left doesn't just do that -- it glorifies and cheers on Evil, with complete abandon.

the toppling of saddam would have been a worthy achievement had it resulted in improved conditions for the iraqis. but in this case, dubbyah's achievement has consisted in making a horrific regime look good in comparison with what he's brought. Not entirely unlike the replacement of the shah with the mullahs.

the question should be, would they prefer saddam back or for iraq to remain in the state that it is in.
As the ineffectual handling of the conflict perdures and "surges" replace "freedom operations" until the all important WH marketing team finds a new catchword to revitalize its failure and mask its incompetence, increasingly less iraqis will opt for the latter.
