Risky business
As I keep saying, conservative candidates are supposed to be the old and trusty guys -- the safe bet. Pinkos are the risky guys, the ones gambling with our hard-earned money. Right? So how come Mac is the reckless one, squandering the only built-in advantage of the Republican brand (built over the last, oh, three decades) in these times of trouble? Said a Republican veteran shortly after the announcement: "Reckless." Precisely.

McCain likes to joke about President Bush putting faith in Vladimir Putin based on Bush's famous ability to see into the Russian leader's soul. Now McCain has made a high-profile decision based largely on his gut.
Trust me, I know what I'm doin'.
Another ad-hoc element to the Palin pick is the curious defense of her foreign policy credentials. Republicans and Cindy McCain have mentioned that she understands national security issues in part because she is governor of Alaska, whose borders nearly touch Russia's.
Has Palin looked Putin in the eye, yet? And, btw, Cindy McCain's chain of logical implications is rather shaky -- yes, AA?

Sounds like you are ready to vote for barack.
You're right, AI. We should've lost with Mitthead.
Pepe: I'm just criticizing Mac's choice, that's all. Of all the politicos in the Republican Party, he had to pick someone with so little qualifications! This is infuriating. But of course, I'd never vote for the pinko candidate.
JJ: Where did equate Palin=Putin? Man, is logical thinking in deep peril! Let me explain, slowly: the irony in that statement is that, while Mac keeps making fun of W about his "I love Pooty" statement (rightly so), he makes the same kind of off-the-cuff, snap judgments, based on atmospherics instead of a tightly reasoned chain of deductions.
Logic should be taught in kindergarten. But of course, not even math majors -- nay, not even math grad students -- learn that subject anymore.

you had me on the edge of my seat for a minute.

I once had a gf who took a logic class. It really did nothing for her where it matters.
