OK, OK, JJ. I cracked, and read through (part) of Sullivan's article. Here's how he defines "bear": "Bears" almost all have facial hair -- the more the better. Of all the various characteristics of Beardom, this seems to be one of the most essential. The Ur-bears have bushy beards that meander down their necks and merge with a large forest of chest and back-hair to provide a sort of all-hair body environment. Bears are also big guys. [..] Bears at their most typical look like regular, beer-drinking, unkempt men in their 30s, 40s and 50s. They have guts. They have furry backs. They don't know what cologne is and they tend not to wear deodorant. One mode of interaction is the occasional sniff of each others' armpits. Nature's narcotic.
Well, now, this is very illuminating. But what does it have to do with anything?
It is safe to say that, through this rash choice, McCain has thrown away any hope for the PETA vote. Berkeley and Portland are now lost. Hope your happy, Warmonger JJ
Pretty clear that Madame Sullivan is an acute observer and can sniff out the important story in a political campaign. For example, look at bloodhound going for the meat of an important story.
BTW, I sent Madame Sullivan some choice words, informed Taranto of all this, and abused Kaus for defending Sullivan on the early stages of this filth.
Where is the "more than one should know" label on the bear story? JJ, looks like you're on a quixotic battle there. Good for you, but do you think you'll make any waves tilting at those windmills? (Metaphor alert!)

Does "bear" have some kind of double-entendre that escapes me?

My, you have been a busy bee....But I'd love to see their reactions when they read what you sent. Sullivan particularly.

Check Taranto's thanks today.
Was it the Kossacks story? Taranto (no Dr. Html he), forgot to link the chart he's supposed to link to.
I sent him the Atlantic garbage of Sullivan's and Jean François Kerry's comparison of Palin to Cheney.
