Betcha Fifa now regreta like heck allowing Henry's goal to fix the match against Ireland.

This meltdown on the French side, it is a subject well beyond Domenech and his relations with a particular player of players. It is a rift in the federation between "Old France" and "New France", and has been developing for at least 10 years. The undercurrents are poisonous, and the chief can't "understand" because the federation has had the same hope as the government itself, that the transition is no more than a change of style and not of substance.
Yeah, right. Troussiet has much better relations once he chose to convert to Islam. Domenech doesn't swing that way. The French have not wanted to face the meaning of this. Now they will have to.

Pauv' France. Rather sad, when you think about it.

From Le Temps:

Anelka represents the problem much more than Domenech. Or, let's say Anelka represents the active corrosive, and Domenech the ones who were to long blind to the corrosion.

Anelka is a douche but so was Zidane and so is Platini. France is a douche. The crap about national unity goes for the US as well, though not in the soccer team because no one cares about it.

All this came a day after striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home for insulting coach Raymond Domenech at halftime of a 2-0 defeat by Mexico on Thursday in Polokwane that left France on the verge of an embarrassing group stage exit.

Cinco de mayo all over again.
