zarkycide

The story of the day in every paper seems to be that zarky died of natural causes but not right away. i am wondering if that this is not really a subliminal message [from the administration?] to other zarky wannabes that he actually was offed once on his stretcher - and that similar fate will await copycats. I can't understand the purpose of the ubiquity of this otherwise peripheral detail any other way. You ?

Dead man walking -- what's so unusual about that? My take is that there is some kind of morbid fascination with Zarky surviving two 500lb guided bombs up his ass, even for a few minutes. I wouldn't read too much into that. Much more interesting seems to me the tangled web that led to the pinpointing of his hideout. And, good to hear the Jordanians actually helped in this case. Zarky must have pissed them real bad when he sent his suicide teams to blow up that wedding in Amman (not to mention his earlier plot to detonate a chemical bomb of some sort in Jordan). That the Jordanians would do more in the end to bring about the demise of Zarky (a Jordanian himself, of course) than would the Iraqis is somewhat curious, but hey, this is a tough (and unpredictable) neighborhood. You get whatever help you can.

Ahhh, but the Left supports our troops! Yeah, right. If anyone believes that, I have a bridge to sell in Brooklyn.

Taranto's take:

He died soon after of his wounds. It's especially gratifying to think that Zarqawi spent his final minutes fully aware of who got him.

Meanwhile, the other Z-man, Ayman al-Zawahiri, al Qaeda's No. 2, has a new video out, the Associated Press reports:

An Al-Jazeera announcer said that the tape was made before the announcement of al-Zarqawi's death Thursday because al-Zawahiri praised the al Qaeda in Iraq leader's efforts to confront U.S.-led forces in Iraq.

"God bless the prophet of Islam in Iraq, the persistent hero of Islam, the Holy Warrior Abu Musab al-Zarqawi," al-Zawahiri said.

For years we've been hearing that Iraq is a "distraction" from the war on terror. Looks as though Zawahiri is distracted too!
