No country for old men

The base is tired. Republicans feel their own kind of unease at Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton. Talk about wanting to stand athwart history yelling stop. And Peggy rips McCain a new one. JJ will shrug. Don't worry, be happy. Have some more ouzo.

My God! I couldn't make it through any single paragraph of this senile broad's blather. She definitely reminds me of that old retard Buckley that she quotes in there somewhere.
What is the Iraq surge good for she asks? Goddammit! Ask Pepe what the fuck it's good for, he gets it.
She was annoying when she was mouthing inanities for Reagan and now she's worse still.
Tear down this wall, indeed, and get me the hell out of this article!

Check this out. I stand corrected. It was Noonan that claimed to be the puppet with her hand up the Gipper's arse. Actually it was someone a whole lot smarter, or himself.

Another. This is fascinating. Reagan had balls, guys.

Nobody ever said Peggy wrote the "Tear down that wall" speech -- Reagan got some help on that, of course, but it was pretty much his own speech, one that he gave against the advice of pretty much the whole bureaucracy. I think Peggy made her name with the smaltzy "Challenger" speech, which she wrote, and Reagan pretty much just read, in the wake of the o-ring disaster.

Well, OK, she's getting slowly gaga. But she's not running for President, McCain is. And the burden is on him to prove her wrong, not the other way around. Has he?

Apparently the burden was on me to read her slobberings. I couldn't. Still, you ought to read the article in the second comment here above. It's good. No, your hero Reagan didn't write the thing.

Condoleezza Rice and Philip Zelikow, minimized the significance of the Berlin Wall address and its role in the events leading up to the end of the Cold War.

"I thought it was corny in the extreme," Brent Scowcroft, national security adviser to George H. W. Bush, told me. "It was irrelevant, that statement at that time."

The Bushies are being jealous of the Reagan legacy. As the old Romanian proverb has it, the dogs bark, the caravan keeps on trucking.

Yeah, GHW Bush was fucking Gerry Ford. That's why he lost.
