Saigon. Shit.

When do you think Obama's going over there? When Hillary went, she got l'epaule froide, as I recall. He's got Lieberman with him. I wish he'd be Mac's running mate.

Correction: Thanks to Congress (circa 1975), Saigon is no longer known as Saigon, but rather, Uncle Ho City.

As for Lieberman: He may make a good Cabinet minister in a McCain admin (if McCain gets elected -- a big if). But he can't run with him on the ticket -- you know, at least officially, McCain represents the Republican Party. Lieberman has all his life been a Democrat (and lately switched to Independent, being forced to do so). Which is fine for him, but let's keep this at least nominally a 2-party system, willya? Otherwise, we end up with an election between Pinko (D) and Maverick (R).

Maybe I should invoke the "penumbras" of the Constitution, as the Liberals always do? I won't. But let's be serious -- this business of contemplating a split ticket (like Kerry did in 2004 -- sending out feelers to McCain!) is just plain silly, if not downright stupid.

Cabinet ministers from another Party, on the other hand, is something more reasonable -- not usual, but it happens. Though I can think of one really bad example: when Bill Clinton picked Richard Cohen (an ex-Republican Senator) as Secretary of Defense. This guy was just abysmal -- it was under his watch that AQ grew up, unchallenged.
