Rough Riders in Iraq?... "BULLY!"

This article fails to mention that a portion of the American media refuses to help Mesopotamia until Bush is out of office, but overall, it's not a bad analysis.

is it the role of the media to do so?

I suppose that would be determined by each journalist, and vary according to different degrees of idealism each might possess.

Now, did you read the article?

very interesting article.

The Americans, while they sought to win militarily, also worked to convince the Filipinos that there were advantages to being ruled by the United States.
and i think this is precisely why the us will never win in iraq: no muslim country will ever accept US dominance. it didn't work in Basra at the beginning of the war when the shiites were the most likely to welcome the occupation forces and it certainly won't happen now that it is plain that the US has brought nothing but chaos and destruction.

Pepe, the U.S. hasn't brought chaos and destruction. You're jumping a couple steps beyond, equating Islamic Nihilism (well, I guess they're going to Paradise) as a direct result of U.S. Policy. This negates individual human agency, which everyone has. Militant Islam was blowing up Buddha long before U.S. Soldiers arrived in Afghanistan. Saddam merely had such a tyrannical grip on his own country that he was able to shut it down... for a time.

In the end, though, I'm not going to convince you. Instead, I'm going to retire with some primary sources for the evening.
