For people with serious gender identity issues, why is that worse than, say, surgery for a cleft palate?

Tecumseh said...

That's not the issue. The issue (as the title of the article says) is: who foots the bill? By definition, the socialist solution is to spread all such costs on to the taxpayers. Ulululululu, says Charly.

Charly said...

absolutely - the community should foot the bill.

An idiotic idea, even if related in jest.

Tecumseh said...

Why idiotic? It's standard pinko doctrine: everything must be paid by the State, through taxes collected from citizens (or, more precisely, a subset consisting of roughly 50% of citizens). Once you accept this basic principle of Pepea, there is no line at which you can reasonably stop, and say, whoaa, no way Josay, we can't pay for that?

Eg, just to take another, totally random example: why not pay tuition for illegal aliens from state-collected taxes? You'd be branded as being heartless.

Q.E.D.

You managed to lower Pepe's from dumbest comment of the day to second.

Tecumseh said...

Oh, yea? How's that? Prove it.

Alright, maybe no stupid card is higher than the phrase "serious gender identity issues," but educating people for free is what states do so that the populace has a culture related to the state.

It's about the best thing the government does, and you've been a beneficiary for so long that you ought to be a bit self-aware.

The US government and the several states are not in the business of providing free college education to each and everyone who sets foot on US soil. You've been around long enough to know that.

Mr roT said...

You have a definition problem there. The government provides a lot of services to anyone that's on the territory.

Where'd you get that archaism about "the several states"?

Sounds about like serious identity issues. Did you buy a tricorn hat or something?

Mr roT said...

While on topic, I wonder what you make of the Marshall Plan, Tecs.

Seems to me that it was a huge waste of money. We bought a hoard of pissy malcontents instead of educating a couple generations of Americans.

Sounds like a bum deal just to push off some Russians that can't even get a phone system to work.

there is no such thing as gender identity issues ? guys aren't born with dicks feeling there must have been some sort of mix-up and unable to cope with it ? wtf are you saying rot - this is all 'lifestyle' ? You think these people just feel like trying on a vagina like you do a skirt when no one is watching ?

Mr roT said...

My identity issue is that I need a couple dozen women and bottles of whiskey around me at all times or I get very unhappy and nervous.

I think someone ought to pay to make me happy even if it means that he and his kids might be less so.

By the way, I only drink expensive scotch and probably all this investment of your kids' money probably won't make me happy in the end anyway, because the real problem is not the booze and broads or how much they cost, but actually is just that I am an unstable malcontent.

Jesus fucking christ, rot - no one is saying the community should foot the bill for any wacky purchase impulse that goes through anybody's head. Profound gender issues are medical and unrelated to choices made, unlike your 12 chick orgy thang.

I want an convertible bentley and don't think it should be on the community either. But if I am born without legs and need an expensive special vehicle to move around, that is an entirely different matter. Like we aren't a community of islands that occasionally have to bump into each other. By pulling together resources, issues that individuals can't handle on their own can easily be resolved. that is a good thing goddam it.

Mr roT said...

What we'll pull together is a communal disaster.

In fact, without surgertainment we're already there.

Obama's death panels are cooking up criteria for pulling plugs on people that need medical attention in order to survive and you're suggesting diverting money from them in order to make very unhappy people differently unhappy (plus mutilated).

Senseless in the extreme.

Charly said...

death panels ? you caught mamabearite. Time for a community-subsidized shot.

Mr roT said...

You don't understand what it is for the government to ration health care do you?

What's there not to understand?

Charly said...

We'll eventually all get sick. And then what - you'll be on your death bed clamoring for the community's obligation to let you roT ?

Mr roT said...

...while a surgeon is mutilating a confused guy's joint.

Sounds ideal.

Charly said...

So what is your point - that transgender issues are frivolous or that when it comes to healthcare, it ought be one man for himself ?

Mr roT said...

Yeah, that and cosmetic surgery are trivial compared to saving lives, which is what surgeons are for.

I am having trouble coming up with an "x=x" more obvious than that.

Charly said...

Frivolous stats.

33.2% of transgender youth have attempted suicide.
55% of transgender youth report being physically attacked.
74% of transgender youth reported being sexually harassed at school, and 90% of transgender youth reported feeling unsafe at school because of their gender expression.

Mr roT said...

Surgery won't alleviate the fact that these poor people are misfits anywhere.
