Hmm... I still do, sort of. Looks like Sarko beat Sego by 5 points, which kind of feels good, although I doubt it means much. More: Yet detractors on the left say Sarkozy is too free-market at a time of widespread fear about job security and unemployment, and the wrong answer for a France still coping with fallout of rioting across poor suburban areas in the fall of 2005.
sidenote: the history channel had the General Sherman edutainment this evening. Some commentator was quite up front about using presentday Military code to judge Sherman's 1860s actions. Jacques Barzun always warned against this.
The obvious rebuttle would be from JJ, who has countered me with "Don't judge the past from the present." My counter to that would be, "There were plenty of abolitionists in the day to argue against that Peculiar Institution for me." It was mildly entertaining, the few bits that I caught. I'd recommend spending time with the soldier memoirs instead.
