I don't know how to break it to you, but Lula is no longer the President of Brazil -- not since January 1st. Now it's Dilma Rousseff. From her bio:
Her father was an active member of the Bulgarian Communist Party in the 1920s. Pétar Rúsev fled political persecution in Bulgaria in 1929, and arrived in Brazil in the 1930s.
