On the Pleasures of Hating

Hazlitt, "Nature seems (the more we look into it) made up of antipathies: without something to hate, we should lose the very spring of thought and action. Life would turn to a stagnant pool, were it not ruffled by the jarring interests, the unruly passions, of men."

Of course, it isn't necessary to hate in order to act. Emotion tends to cloud judgment, or, I suppose in these days, it's better to say that it tends to "nudge our thoughts in different directions and thus, give us new perspectives."

This essay seemed interesting, and that I posted it doesn't mean I agree or disagree with it one way or another wholeheartedly. I just posted it to get a little discussion on misanthropy -- and in that case philanthropy -- going.

Hate me if you have to that I posted this, however. No worries. Completely understandable.

Charles Johnson can be extreme and angry without being as blinded by it as AA and AI. Hey! Don't worry. Be Happy!

...yet as JJ and AA continuously demonstrate, there is such a thing as Friendly Hatred.
