I'm still processing the fact that this op-ed ran in the NYT. Is this confusing anyone else?
Safire was the token sane guy before Brooks and Kristol. Kristol is just a temp though.
Safire was not just the token conservative at the NYT (for decades on end) -- he was also their word maven, and expert speechwriter. So it makes plenty of sense for him to comment on Obama's speech at the convention.
