Bastiat asserted that the only purpose of government is to defend the right of an individual to life, liberty, and property. From this definition, Bastiat concluded that the law cannot defend life, liberty and property if it promotes socialist policies inherently opposed to these very things. In this way, he says, the law is perverted and turned against the thing it is supposed to defend.

Nazi.

BTW, Bastiat is buried at San Luigi dei Francesi. FYI, this church is where Martin Luther stayed when he came to Rome for his trial which was held at the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, which is on the other side of the Pantheon. But I'm digressing.

SLF has two (2) fantastic Caravaggios in it.

You been there?

Yes. I take the kids through that neighborhood on walks all the time. It's one of my favorites because it's between Navona and Rotunda. Piazza della Rotunda is my favorite spot in the city.
