When Planet Pepe Gets Gobsmacked

Comedy Gold alright....

[from a viewers perspective; watching an opening show of Mikey Moore wannabes and Seattleware Michellenean ACORN "beauties", vs the dancing lovelies of Samba???? No wonder Chicago got kunked]

I don't know if this is a consideration for anyone, but I just hate all those commercials and inane "documentaries" about the banal lives of those athletes, and all the partial coverage interrupted by more palavering and non-sequiturs, etc. I still remember fondly the Olympics in Rome and Tokyo and Mexico City, when I could watch as a kid without any interruption whatsoever for hours solid chuncks of action, with a just-the-facts-ma'am kind of coverage, where the camera would just let the competition speak for itself (eg, Bob Beamon's long jump in '68 -- wow!), not like those imbecilic loudmouths who hog the camera nowadays.

At any rate, I basically stopped watching the Olympics after LA in 1984, which were just painful to watch. But, everything being equal, I still think there is a better chance to have a mildly OK show when the Olympics are overseas. In Chicago -- forget about it.

Maybe C-Span 3 ought to start rolling cameras at the olympics. Seems like they could do today what Tecs recollects from yesteryear.

Good idea, MFT. Yes, Olympics on C-span -- that would be the best. Just put some fixed cameras (well, some high-tec shots are also good now and then), cut the crap by 95%, and just show the events. I mean, duhh. Of course, it's never gonna happen (anymore). What a shame.
