Conrad Black can forget time off for good behavior

Kaus slams Obama. Steyn being Steyn.

Wow. Conrad Black dishes it out from the bowels of Coleman. Hölder is not amused.

Steyn: Yes, I saw it last night, but didn't post it. OK, but not great. Steyn seems in a bit of a down cycle, methinks -- he cannot possibly keep his form at peak performance constantly, he goes in cycles. I think he was much better during the pantybomber episode, now he's catching his breath. Black, on the other hand, has all the time in the world, so when he wants to pack a punch, he delivers, in spades.

Kaus: If it wasn't for his role in the Massachusetts Senate debate, I'd say we're a week away from David Gergen's touchdown at Reagan National. This is too funny!

Dunno, Tecs. This is a pretty strong sentence: America is becoming a bilingual society, divided between those who think a pickup is a rugged vehicle useful for transporting heavy-duty items from A to B, and those who think a pickup is coded racism.

Oh, yeah, now I remember that sentence from the end of the Steyn piece. Yes, he slowly picks up steam during his piece, and then he hits his stride (and he's always, consistently good when he does that) towards the end, when he picks on the pickup truck team.

Et tu, Brute? BTW, I think we have a label on this, don't we? Betcha is gonna get more popular in the weeks to come -- competing at the same time with "that's not the xxx I knew".

From the FT piece:
“My advice would be that he pick up the phone and ask for Bill Clinton’s advice on how to recover from a situation like this.”

Hah, like Kaus-Gergen.

More ominously:
. “The Obama proposals were clearly politically motivated and came from the White House not the Treasury,” says a Democratic adviser to the administration, who withheld his name.

Obama is losing loyalty among his staff in the WH. Howard Dean specifically denied that this reining in of the banks was related to the Boston Tea Party, but oops...we have guys inside saying it's all politics.

In short, Mr Obama’s nightmare January could easily slip into a nightmare February. “Unless and until the president changes the way his White House, works, things are going to continue to go badly for him,” says the head of a Democratic think-tank. “Heads still have to roll.”

Dems saying that. Hmmm. Remember when FT and Economist were cheerleading?

The Gucci left are a fickle crowd.

I guess the moderates want Rahm out for overreading the mandate. The HuffPoers never trusted Rahm because they wanted single-payer and didn't like that he would deal.

Thus Rahm is opposed by the accommodationists and the hard left.

How do you say toast in Hebrew?

About Dodd, note that not only is he asking for a slowdown on HC"R" but (according to the FT piece) he's opposing Obama's new attack on the financial industry.

Hey, they can't fire him!

The whole situation is fluid, and rather unpredictable. Remember those 7 VDH scenarios, and your 3 slimmed-down possibilities? Thinks are shaking in various directions, but it's still not clear to me where they are going. The natural centripetal force is back towards the center (that's what happened in 1994, for instance), but there are all those countervailing centrifugal forces. And it's not just ideology at play here. It's also (political) survival instinct vs the macho play, or the Last Stand at the Alamo (or is it Little Big Horn?)

Watch the directive to come down to move him out of Coleman Low and into Coleman High.

Black's either got brass balls or has found a cheap retirement plan lies in Coleman.

Coleman High? Why not a Black Site?

In the meantime, Rasmussen is back at -19, with 44-55 overall. Not to worry, says Pepe.
