Palin's multiyear deal with the network was announced Monday, and takes her back to her broadcast roots. She majored in journalism with an emphasis on broadcasting at the University of Idaho and worked part time as a weekend sportscaster in 1988 for an Anchorage TV station.

Sounds about the right level for her -- well, till she bones up on the basics, eg, the fact that there is a North Korea and a South Korea. In the meantime, I'll give it a shot tonight (thanks for letting me know), though I find O'Reilly often insufferable nowadays -- Hannity is better.

O'Reilly really is irritating. As for Hannity have seen him so few times have no idea what he's really like.

Hannity is the all American boy, straight up, twinkle in his eye, etc. Not nearly as good as Taranto or Steyn (his range is more limited), but hey, it's a different business. O'Reilly is more devious, and a bit unhinged. Just on a show-business level, Hannity is better at letting guests talk than O'Reilly, who oftentimes jumps all over them till it gets to be just an incoherent shouting match, though now and then he can be good (though much less often than before). Let's see if the chemistry works with Palin.

I haven't had a TV in years, but have seen O'Reilly on youtube. I think he's good, but I've only seen a few minutes of him.

When he interviewed Obama, I thought he was pretty good. He was civil, asked coherent questions, and didn't take no bullshit, but was polite about it.

Yes, O'Reilly can be reasonable when he wants. It's business, after all, so he can't afford to go nuts. But he loses it once in a while, and falls flat other times. All in all, still watchable, but in little doses. Probably youtube highlights is the better way to go.

As for Palin, she didn't look nearly as good as on that comedy show with Shatnner. Wasn't too comfortable, and didn't have much to say. From a purely showbiz point of view, Huck is better.
