A week before the election, Fox News's Neil Cavuto dared ask Mr. Brown how he could oppose Washington's plan, given that he voted for RomneyCare as a state legislator. Mr. Brown—perhaps unwilling to upset his political patron—claimed that they were "two different programs." He argued that the Massachusetts plan, in contrast to ObamaCare, was a "free-market enterprise." Lucky for Mr. Brown, the liberal blogs didn't seize on his comments until too late.
The apparatchiks got so fat and lazy, they cannot even see a legitimate line of political attack when it smacks them in the face. Pinko Versailles is stuck on two Coakleyan modes: either clueless detachment ("let them eat cake", or, "me, freezing my butt outside Fenway park, shaking hands with the stinking peasants -- are you kiddin' me?"), or vitriolic, incoherent lashing out at said hoi-polloi who dare challenge them.
What the GOP couldn't say is "What do you expect? Massachusetts is full of fruits and pinkos. Even our guys there have to be fruits and pinkos. Only Tecs gets excited about Massachusetts Republicans."
It's OK with me. So he payed a courtesy visit to Mac, big woops. And Mac nowadays in the Senate is closer to the Mac of old times (ie, pre-2000) than the mavericky Mac of 2001--2008), so what's the rub, Herr Rot?
Now, as for the future. Look, I don't expect Brown to become the standard-bearer in Washington. But I hope he can grow in stature -- without going full hog mavericky a la Mac -- so that he can have a chance at re-election in 2 years' time. And whatever he does, I'm sure he'll be incomparably better than Coackley woulda been -- that's tautological.

Pinkos estúpidos.
Without Party Central to give the directive, the apparatchiks dare not take a stab at it.

He'll have to be Olympia Snowe. Sad about that, but think so.
