Speaking of missed clues
Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad was once detained in Yemen for possessing a fake Somali passport and other counterfeit documents [..] but the investigation was inconclusive leaving the bureau with insufficient evidence. After which the guy went on a shooting rampage in Little Rock. The system worked!

And they can't even spell Abdul:
It did however cause the State Department to determine, based on an initial search on the wrong spelling of Abdulmutallab's name, that Abdulmutallab did not have a U.S. visa, when in fact, he was issued a two year multi-entry visa in June 2008.
We are in good hands.
