When Herr Rot goes to Euroland

.. discord ensues: The Germans have recently turned on the Austrians, whom they now rate as only marginally less spendthrift than the Greeks. Germans, especially in the north, have always abused Austrians for being lazy, profligate, light-fingered, and frivolous. The Austrians in turn brand the Germans as overbearing, dictatorial, censorious, and mean -- braggarts, bullies, and skinflints.

There's no difference between Austrians and Southern Germans, e.g. Bavarians. They're basically Italians with a rougher accent and potatoes instead of tomatoes.

Only Tecs and Obama think that Austrian is its own language.

At the same time I get many reports of Italians, who by nature are among the most courteous and friendly people on earth...

This guy's on acid. Has he ever been to Rome, Milan, Venice, or Courmayeur?

This guy is Paul Johnson, like in, the historian. But yes, I also noted his comment about Italians. Too much grappa, I guess. Or Mr Alz.

As for Germans vs Italians, note that Johnson specifically says the northern Krauts look down at the Austrians, not the Bavarians. Reading is essential, Herr Rot.

Background from wiki: In 1998 Johnson was revealed to be having an eleven-year affair with writer Gloria Stewart. Stewart went public with the affair to the newspapers after what she saw as Johnson’s hypocrisy over his views on morality, religion and family values and also alleged that Johnson liked erotic spanking, adding "Paul loved to be spanked and it was a big part of our relationship. I had to tell him he was a very naughty boy."

Ah, but does he know how to chase them mountain goats, up in the Alps? Rot is da expert on that.

Enquiring mindless want to know! The spanking thing is what closet Brits do when they really ate into Kayla.

Spare the rod, spoil the Etonist.

Comes from warming those loo seats for the older boys, back in the Eton days?
