I get the sense sometimes that there are an awful lot of people who think
1) Christianity is a cult that for 2000 years has been oppressing women and homosexuals, abusing children, subverting science, and justifying imperialism, and
2) It's an outrage for anyone to suggest our dear President isn't a member.

Tecs. In 1) are you saying that no reasonable argument can be made that:
A/ one of the fundamental functions of Christianity hasn't been to legitimize monarchy until, say, the XIXth c In France?
B/ Copernicus, Giordano Bruno and Galileo wouldn't agree with the notion that it hasn't subverted science ?
C/ Members the clergy haven't been abusing children on a large scale all over the world and the hierarchy repeatedly attempted to cover it up ?
and not just the monarchy

Charly: you can try making such an argument, but it's doomed to be inconsistent, tendentious, self-contradictory, and fallacious. In other words, a non-starter.
