Just drove from Grand Forks thru Fargo and onto Bismarck yesterday. At certain points along I-94 I wondered if the Road Warrior might fly past me.
The hortoculturalists recommend on giving up on watering grass and rather just focus on keeping the trees hydrated. Yesterday a friend said the Missouri River reservoirs in Nebraska were getting a bit low too. Maybe it's time for ouzo in the Heartland?

I'd try a raindance, instead.

AI, that might even more influential than prayer. Check this out: it looks like the Romanians still partake in rain dancing.
Here's a more direct link to Paparuda.
Good catch, MFT! Here is more on this kind of rain dance.
Actually, I was not familiar with this interpretation of the word paparuda -- to me, it means a woman using heavy make-up, and garish dresses. But maybe this meaning is related, judging from the pic you sent?
Interesting, ai. I'm unfamiliar with much of eastern Europe (except for a short WWII history paper I did on Draza Mihalovich and Joseph Tito as an undergrad).
With that said, here's some general truisms about language: I suppose the paparuda word might be interpreted a bit different from one Romanian region to another, yes? Interpretations are likely to alter a bit over time (I don't mean this in the sense that you're really friggin' old either). Still, there seems to be cohesion between your interpretation and the wikpedia pic.
