Active and Passive in Tense times

As if Tawfik had shared bread with the D of PP: "Worst of all, perhaps, is the anti-Americanism among many Westerners. It is a resentment so strong, so deep-seated, so rooted in personal identity, that it has led many, consciously or unconsciously, to morally support America's enemies."

Interesting. This guy's analysis is of course obvious -- the Left hates America so much, that it will suck up and grovel at the feet of any head-hacking psycopath just for the sado-masochistic joy of it. And yes, it describes to a t you-know-who. What's interesing though is who says it -- someone directly from the Belly of the Beast. Which makes me think that Binnie & the Boyz see through the fawning groveling of the Dukes of Versailles, and just despise it.

It is vital to grasp that traditional and even mainstream Islamic teaching accepts and promotes violence. Shariah, for example, allows apostates to be killed
This is a truly ridiculous argument: first off, shariah isn't applied in most liberal muslim societies (morocco, tunisia, lybia, lebanon, and possibly others), second, following the same line of argumentation, you could argue the same of the old testament (eating shellfish, ...).

Western appeasement of their Muslim communities has exacerbated the problem.
whereas the neocon~ic approach is clearly resolving the problem?

"D of PP: shariah isn't appied in most liberal muslim societies (morocco, tunisia, lybia, lebanon, and possibly others)
First, could a country be "liberal" and apply Shariah law? If so, please explain.
Second, did you mean that of the nations which are predominantly Muslim, and not ruled by Shariah, most are liberal??? Are you saying you consider Tunisia and Libya, for example, liberal? Please explain. [although this would go far to shed light on your saddam fetish]
Third, Lebanon was until recently [try 1960s] a majority christian state. That it is now far in the transition to a state ruled by Hebzollah [unless the Syria Baath of Blood option wins out] says much for the "liberality" which surives Muslim aggression
Fourth, what the hell evidence do you have for what seems to be your basic assumption; that a liberal muslim society, to the extent one exists [emphasis on liberal], is a tradiotional or mainstream Islamic society??? What happened to your vaunted "Might is Right, More People Say So then Is So" Uber-Principle of political philosophy? No longer convenient for you??

As for your: "second, following the same line of argumentation, you could argue the same of the old testament (eating shellfish, ..."
This makes Baudrillard look sharp

Pepe "
the Left hates America so much
Puh-leeze, ai. You can't possibly truly believe this idiotic left=america-hater reduction"
AI can answer this for himself, but I would note this mote of evidence, pro and con the Left's patriotism.
Lieberman is a liberal, and hence to the Left. Lieberman clearly does not hate America. He actually seems to admire it, even Love it. Check one for Pepe.
Lieberman gets scorned as a traitor to the Left by huge swaths of the Democrat party, and cheers resound when he is defeated in the primaries. His becoming Independent is mocked by Huffingtonia and Kos and Dem.Underground, as well as Dean, Kucinich, Pelosi, Boxer, Kennedy, etc..., as the desperate measure of a scoundrel. It seems Lieberman was a Neocon in Leftish clothing, and now must be hunted down like a rabid jewdog. All to the hosannas from Planet Pepe....Check one very big one for AI.

that would be a first. if experience serves, he will instead reply with one of his customary limbaughesque "ditto"s.
[Lieberman] must be hunted down like a rabid jewdog
you figured it all out aa: if he wasn't a jew we would all be behind him.

Are you saying that for every call to violence in the koran, it isn't possible to find an equally absurd statement in the OT?

AA: Good question about Lieberman, so please let me try to explain. When I talk about the Left, I'm thinking of the vast majority of the present Left in the US and the rest of the Western World -- it's just shorthand, like "pinko". Of course, traditionally the Left (at least the moderate/liberal Left, in the tradition of Roosevelt-Truman-Kennedy, etc), was patriotic, at times even more so than the right (think Lindbergh playing footsie with the Uebermensch). But those days are long gone, and a patriotic Lefty is like the dodo bird. Lieberman is more like a relic of the past -- he would have been perfectly at ease in say, the Kennedy administration -- but things have move so much from under him, that he's like in one of those Wilye Coyote cartoons, looing down after he ran over the cliff.

But I'm not jsut talking public figures - I usually form opinions from personal contact (or more recently, from emails or blogging). And, by just looking at hundreds of pieces by Mr Straman (JJ and AA remember him), or more recently, at Mr PP, I can see blindingly clear the near-perfect correlation between the Hate-America-Crowd and the Marx-is-God crowd. To put it more succintly, let me steal from Pepe an equation, of which I buy at least one implication:
left ==> america-hater
I don't believe the converse is true (eg, far as I know, Atta boy was not at all a leftie, yet his hate rivaled Chomsky's. There, maybe this nuance will make Pepe feel better (provided he gets the difference between equation and implication).

D of PP "Are you saying that for every call to violence in the koran, it isn't possible to find an equally absurd statement in the OT?"

Oh you can find equally absurd statements allright [OT and Quran]. But it is more absurd that you would offer the example of fucking shellfish as one of "equivalence".
Of course what you don't find in the Old Testament is any insistence that to be a Good Jew you have to imitate the "Best of All Possible Jews", nor is a man's life set out as the template to answer all questons and guide all decisions.
First, because the OT is doesn't begin to offer a single man as the Messenger [whose your best of all possible Jews? Abraham? Moses? David? Job [my choice] ? Saul? Noah [probably PPs choice]? Ecclesiastes? Malichi?
Second, because the Torah and Talmud are not setting up an ideology to conquer and dominate the world for and bring to mankind a single Truth "By Which to Rule Them All". There is no single Message.
So God getting medieval on Sodom's ass, or Moses doing a Saddam on the calfworshippers, is no more a "guide" to action for the perplexed juden than was Zeus sending that unsuspecting terrorist Pandora to bash mankind, or Achilles' dragging of Hector's body around the walls of Troy, a guide to the perplexed Athenian.
But Islam is a different story altogether.
There, the Message is Als Klahr as Mein Kampf, and the Messenger as central to it as Petain's fave Teuton.
