To be fair to Il Papa, he's probably still gunshy from the reaction of his quoting 14th century folks who had to face the RoP. Also, the Euros are so deeply mired in Pepethink that even that milquetoast quote above is a genuine shock. Because they do deny that there exist these attempts to Islamise the West.
Once you have a horde of O'Brien trained vichyists going around muttering "2+2=5" just saying "2+2=4" is enough to be speaking Truth to Power.
