Kristol has a point. If W cuts and run for the tall grass, the "freedom fighters" and the Palneteers will go in for the kill. Why not stand up and fight? It's simple law-of-the-jungle logic, after all.
So you and I would think.....but from my, thankfully not excessive, exposure to the "Washington Set" there is no truth so stark that they cannot "nuance and sophisticate" themselves into blindness.

If the Bush administration abandons the Kurds, I will join with Mother Sheehan in demanding Georgie's impeachment. There is a line between idiocy/bureaucratic blinders and the Kissingerian/Metternichian poison of "realpolitik". It is the line between human frailty and human evil.
It will be a dis-grace, and I use that word in its most serious sense, if Bush crosses that line.

Right on about the Kurds, AA. A good Kurdish friend of mine lives up the street from my folks. His parents live down the street from my folks too. They sought political asylum back in the '80s.
