One is suspected to be a doctor, a man supposed to be committed to saving, not taking, lives. The other, now fighting for his life in a burns unit, is a “pleasant, calm and sociable” aeronautical engineer.

Doctors and engineers need better, or more, Humanities training. (C'mon: of course mft is gonna pick up on that). Tell JJ.

Once the Astronomer's get involved, then we know there is no intellectual safe haven within Islam

Yes, defining "Humanities" is necessary. I speak of it in the Carrying Forth with the Squalor of Civilization rather than Militant Islam, the jihadists keeping both feet in the metaphysical, self-righteous realm.
