I think the Germans are quite pragmatic, at least when it comes to finance and economics. Viz, their subdued reaction to the crisis, where they spent only a tiny fraction of the money we threw away. Now they coming out of it in much better shape, while we're flailing about, in the general direction of a Trabby economy. But they can feel good about it -- why not? -- and give us good marks. But not good Deutsche Marks (er, euros).
