VDH pisses on Pepe's party

The Maginot defensive line, the new and welcomed art of appeasement (originally, lest we forget, a suitably liberal and humane idea), growing socialist movements, the League of Nations, and a new pacifism were all seen as substitutes for Neanderthal notions like deterrence and military preparedness. Planet Pepe has been spinning its wheels (and shitting on knuckledraggers) for a long, long time.

We are more likely now to put CIA interrogators on trial than to arrest and berate new terrorists. Dick Cheney, not Osama bin Laden, has become the new national threat. George W. Bush has been reduced to Orwell’s Emmanuel Goldstein, the “He did it” collective menace at whom we are supposed to yell out in hatred each morning.

Wow! VDH hits the nail on the head with W=Goldstein. Shit, why didn't I think of this? It's all making sense now.

Doesn't matter. (Incidentally, surely you know Goldstein=Trotsky in the original.) As always, the pinko mind needs an enemy to scream at, put on a show trial, and send to the re-education camps. Can't live without that.

We all do...

I didn't knwo that about Trotsky = Goldstein.

I read some Orwell when I was a kid. I thought it was highly overrated as literature. I guess the guy was right, but that was easy enough.

I remember Goldstein=Trotsky (nee Bronstein, by the way) from a long, long time ago, but according to wiki, it was Hitch who first posited this. Hmmm...

And, pace Mr Rot, George Orwell could write:

Always, Winston, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.

Powww!! Where's my VCP?

O'Brien: We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Mr Rot!

The object of torture is torture? Tell Cheney.

I thought it was to squeeze a couple oranges and get info.
