Casus belli

Let's Roll.

pfff. what congress is going to ok that?

besides, the uk marines allegedly had possibly ventured into iranian waters and they've may also have confessed to that. If that is the case (a big if, I'll admit) the iranian action would be perfectly legitimate. If not, and without any harm done to them, this is a ridiculously minor diplomatic incident and you won''t find anyone but the most rabid of neo-wackos to support any action (besides a rescue operation which would be fine in my book, but that isn't what you irresponsible warmongerers are talking about).

Confessed?? Pfffttt.... Only someone from another Planet can believe that.

Blair does not need Congress -- they have something called Parliament in the UK, ya know?

As for the US, the President is CinC -- if our troops are attacked, he has full authority (nay, obligation) under the Constitution to respond with the full brunt of our Armed Forces.

Before commenting further, I suggest brushing up on the Magna Carta and the Constitution, so that at least we'd have some basic definitions down pat on this blog.

I don't know how you can have an opinion on this. So far, nobody other than the detainees knows.

The only thing to brush up on, if i may say, are your wet dreams: your troops aren't attacked as far as i know so your congress isn't about to do anything.

But following your fantasy, if it weren't for more useless loss of life, it'd be interesting to see the us go to war with iran given that they are bogged down up to their eyeballs to the west and can barely maintain a semblance of peace to the east.
It is probably Ahmadinejad's calculation too: why else would he be so reckless?

the full brunt of our Armed Forces
whatever that is! your army of clowns have been battling firecrackers for four years and seem in worse shape now than when they started. At this point, the us military is a paper tiger to anyone that bothers to look.

Now as far as the britts go, this should prove interesting: blair has got such a beating over this war that he probably doesn't have the political capital to next go against iran, unless the british public turn. But it is pretty clear that they are tired of the endless warmongering, so he is unlikely to go in full force. Special forces are probably his only option, but we'll see.

False. The British Marines, per standard operating procedure, had GPS devices (you know, gizmos invented by non-pinkos) that allowed them, and their superiors on the mother ship, to know exactly where they were. Besides, there was a helicopter from the ship monitpring the whole thing. In fact, all this is explained in the link to this artiocle (just click on "Cassus belli" in orange letters at the top), if you ever bothered to read info, instead of bloviating.

If satellite tracking proves that the British were indeed in Iraqi or international waters at the time of their capture, then Iran is not only in the wrong, blah blah blah

If you bother to read your own post (i've made the relevant passage bold so you don't get confused, and created a link so you can look up the meaning of the word if), you'll see that it doesn't state that satellite tracking has been confirmed either way.

So the brits found a british helicopter crew that confirmed the british version of the events? That's fortunate: I was truly concerned they might state instead that the people on the boat were lying sacks of shit that Ahmadinejad should hang on the spot.

You're right Pepe. We don't know anything for sure. So wwhat we really ought to do is trust the only guy we can trust to tell the truth. Ahmadinejad.

The context of this thread is "let's drop a bomb on iran". As you said, we don't know anything.

Now Blair is saying they didn't stray into Iranian waters. What do you saw now?

Not nuke Tehran: you know me, i'm an extremist.

And seriously, this is still a rather minor diplomatic incident which hopefully won't escalate.

In Ahmedinejad the D of PP trusts

Pepe le Pew said...

and in escalation you do. you neocons have truly learned nothing from your endless string of foreign policy fiascos.

Arelcao Akleos said...

String of foreign policy fiascos? You mean like the Iran hostage taking? The waving of the flag in Beirut according to a most Pepean State department restriction on carrying a loaded weapon? The entrusting of Rwanda and Scerbenica to French and UN attentions? The "if we pretend not to see it then it will go away" reactions to World Trade Center bombing number one, Khobar towers, assorted embassies and occasional warships? The "oh my, let's feed some more Lebanese to Assad and the Mullahs" Pepean policy of advanced Petainism? The 12 year "blah blah while Iraquis die" oil for french coffers program? The Carterite vision of how to nurture Socialist Dictatorships in an era where the rubes keep thinking they actually want that stinking Neocon democracy thingee.? The triumph of appeasement? The glory of conflating Bribes for Bill with "What is Good for the Country"??
Decades and decades of following the Pepean path, and getting nothing but death for Ricains and pelf for Eurabians. No wonder the D of PP recommends that path so heartily
