Death of the Omega Man

Charlton Heston, RIP. [although his Alzheimers left him for dead years ago]
The images are from three of his films which I think were most influential as stories. Ben Hur, The Omega Man, and Planet of the Apes. I don't think we'll ever see such a popular actor so unashamedly American, Christian, and committed to our Constitution.
Planet Pepe opens its bottles of Champagne tonight.

Planet of the Apes was great. I'm not too partial towards his wandering in the desert for 40 years flick, though. Compared to that story, Planet of the Apes seemed more realistic.

Yup, Moses Does Yahweh was/is pretty lame. I could only stand it when Yul Brynner and his UberScheming wifey were bringing a bit of pizzaz to Ol' Egypt. That, and the Pyramids.
Which is why I didn't even consider it for his three most influential.

A great man, indeed. I missed the Omega Man -- I'll try to see it. But I did see a whole bunch of his movies -- Apes was one of the best. El Cid not bad, either.

Sadly enough, the NRA shouldn't find it too difficult to find another babbling chief apologist happy to deny any connection between the availability of firearms and the death toll they cause.

Sadly, Planet Pepe will never run short of babblers who never mull over Switzerland not being awash with blood since, after all, every single family is required by law to keep firearms ready for use. Or to ponder why London, which treats ownership of a gun as a special privilege reserved for Royalty and Imams, is awash in violent crime that makes NY City look like Mayberry.
But then what will Planet Pepe be remembered as, in that Radiant Meccan Future, but as an amusingly useful Tower of Babble.

Enjoy your Champagne, Pepe

Here is a pic of Heston from 1963 (from a march in DC, Pepe wouldn't know about that). At any rate, I wonder if Pepe woulda picked on Da Man when he was at the top of his game, or, more likely, is coming out now that the man has left us for better pastures?

Pepe, did you know Hunter Thompson had a lifetime membership with the NRA?

He mentions it somewhere in one of the volumes of his gonzo papers.

It just shows that the Swiss are able to act responsibly with their firearms. But they are a civilized and educated lot.

Are you saying that the murder rate in the UK is comparable to that of the US?

But then what will Planet Pepe be remembered as, in that Radiant Meccan Future, but as an amusingly useful Tower of Babble.
perpetually stuck in scornful pompous asshole mode, aa?

Compare the statistics for violent crime in London, in the 2000s, to NY City.
Are you saying you can't read?

Pepe le Pew said...

well I am sure you can narrow down a city block in Reykjavic that is more violent than another in Baghdad, but that doesn't say much. we are comparing the effects of the US's policy towards firearms to the UK's here, aren't we?

Getting back to the big man we're (almost) all mourning, here is a bit of prose from him, musing on the Bard. "They none of them f--g know." Indeed.

Yes, UK vs USA sounds fine. While you're at it, compare states/cities with tight gun control versus those who don't abridge 2nd amendment rights. Go ahead.

Like that letter from Charlton Heston, AI. I would have loved to overhear his yaks with Laurence Olivier [especially when they were older].
By the way, the Earl of Oxford as much wrote the plays of Shakespeare as Ted Kennedy wrote the novels of Faulkner.

Tecumseh said...

Right. But I know statisticians who make a living counting words in Shakespeare's works, and "proving" (via some hackery with mumbo-jumbo formulas) that the Earl did it. What do you say about such uses (or abuses?) of stats?

My Frontier Thesis said...

Statisticians need to put food on the table, too, AI.
