Comforting that the flag of Portugal gets lumped into the same discussion as the Declaration of Independence. Must be that shield that gets their goat bleating---because they sure have no intrinsic quarrel with red blood on a field of green.

Obama was just pining for the croquetas he had a couple nights back.

Of course he had the good sense not to bother with the vinho verde and had a good Chard or Roero instead.

You're right, AA--I missed that little flag of Portugal in the wiki article on the Declaration of Independence. Something to do with El Andalus? But that's to the right of Lusitania, no?

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this. You see, AA, the red blood on a field of green also appears in the article on République française (pardon my French, la République française), the US, etc, etc.

Maybe I should venture a conjecture: Every article on ar.wiki has the flag of Portugal adorning it? All your bases are belong to us!

And people thought that the Sun had set on Portugal Ultramar!

Alas, for Portugal, when Islam talks about Al Andalus they don't mean the current Andalusia of Spain. They mean the Western European world conquered for Islam before Charles became Le Martel. That territory includes all of what is Portugal today, except the Atlantic islands.
