The Brit has precedent and excuse: nobles have whored it up with the cute local peasant girls since time immemorial.

The egalitarian (if only in ideal) aspects of Yankee democracy and the hyper-Puritanical socio-psyche forbid much, if all, Stateside whoring around. Understandably, the situation is all the more damning when trust is broken between spouses, and it's full-on hypocrisy when a fucking vice cop/judge gets nailed for nailing $80,000 worth of ladies of the night.

On the other side of things, who knows how long Spitzer and his wife used one-another for pure politics, and nothing else. Chekhov has a decent story I'm reminded of that somewhat touches close to this subject entitled, "The Lady with the Pet Dog."

Again, what's problematic is that he was so Judicially Righteous in his pursuit of corruption.
