Of course, Henry Fonda convinced Mr Rot, too

AA mumbles something about Bayes' Law, but Mr Rot dismisses such trivialities. He also thinks that, if the glove don't fit, you must acquit.

Interesting. My advisor was fond of this movie so we took an evening off from functional analysis, geometry, and pde and watched it on cable. No thrashing that day about my absent mathematical culture and no rejoinders from me about this, which he apparently misinterpreted. Somehow, I felt bad when he backed off and admitted the possibility that I was right and he wrong.

The bald pinko in our dept took me to see
this awesome movie. I think we spoke of it, Tecs, nekulturny AA, no way. About this movie:
The Big Sleep is known for its convoluted plot. During filming, allegedly neither the director nor the screenwriters knew whether chauffeur Owen Taylor was murdered or had killed himself. They sent a cable to Chandler, who told a friend in a later letter: "They sent me a wire ... asking me, and dammit I didn't know either".

Of course, Bacall's name is of Romanian origin. Her mother (whose name was Bacalu) was from Brăila, I think.

The Big Sleep was inferior to The Third Man, but superior to The Maltese Falcon.
Lauren Bacall was superior to Katherine Hepburn, but inferior to Hedy Lamarr.
These facts are beyond dispute, Herr Rott. Do not squander your energy on futilities.
