When the Olympics were the Olympics

This was the best moment in my memory of Olympic Games.
Of course, Tecs and AA say, "deport her."
Here Comaneci is with Bart Connor, who wrecked the Games for me shortly after she made them for me.
Tecs, as you can see, I was spelling 'Rumania' correctly all the time as I agree with the spelling on the board during the performance. Apparently, you started 'educating' people afterwards or they had the good sense to ignore you.
It is certainly the case that at Katz's Deli in NYC, they spell it like I do.

Mr Rot, how many times do I have to teach you how to spell basic stuff. OK< let me recap things for you:

* Roma (or Rome for the yahoos) is a city by the Tiber River. You must have heard of it.

* The Romans where a bunch of people from around there. They built an Empire at some point.

* Led by an Emperor named Trajan (more precisely, Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus Augustus, originally from Hispania Baetica), the Romans conquered Dacia. They built a column in Rome (next to the Forum) to celebrate this event; you should look at it when you have a chance.

* Roman Dacia (also known as Dacia Traiana, or Dacia Felix) later became known as Romania.

To recap: Roma --> Roman --> Romania.

It's not so hard to remember these successive etymologies. You should try.

The best moments in my memory of the Summer Olympic games were:
[1] Portuguese long distance peasant runners taking Marathon Gold in both men's and women's categories, while Versaillean bred thoroughbreds fell in despair into the mire.
[2] George Foreman clobbering all opposition so rapidly and overwhelmingly that it took all the Olympic officials ingenuity to even have a hope of stealing the matches from him.
[3] The archer who lit the Barcelona Olympics.

Shouldn't that be: Romulus-->Rome-->Roman-->Romania?

On that thought, Tecumseh, you're probably fortunate that Remus was the loser.

An astute observation, AA. Of course, Romulus and Remus have a statue in the Roman Square.

Tecs! That's a copy of an Etruscan statue, not some apocryphal pastrami sculpture by a guy called Marie Ulpius Nerva Traianus!

AA, I had no idea that George Foreman was Portuguese.
Live and learn.
The archer who lit the Barcelona Olympics. Thanks for reminding us, AA. That was damned beautiful!

Wow! I'd forgotten all about that archer lighting the Olympic flame. Great shot.

George Forema: Isn't he hawking the Coanda BBQ on cable TV?
