Steyn not too optimistic

this is not decline, but a swift devastating downward slide, far beyond what post-war Britain and Europe saw and closer to Peronist Argentina on a Roman scale.

Steyn is the Anti-Merovingian...he has no patience for the Decadent pissing away their inheritance.

He makes a point worth reflecting upon. When we think of the Decline of the West, we basically think of Western Europe, and its slow, gilded slide -- which, when you're on the ground there, doesn't look that bad at any given moment (as Steyn notes).

Think is, we're not Europe--we're supposed to be the sole remaining superpower, with a lot of commitments and afferent expenses, which of course Europe has skirted for many generations. So, when the shit hits the fan, things tend to go down faster down the drain (to mix a metaphor or two).

If you had the pick, where would you rather be in such a situation?

Palau, Portugal, Montana, the rest of the USA, in that order.
