I'm trying to think of when mathematicians/scientists of this caliber killed one another [there have been some who have killed Stinking Peasants...but that's no doubt just the exuberance of Versailles charmingly showing itself].... Rawlings was a world class astrophysicist. I don't know of Sivia. Pathetic, and sad.

Hmmm... I was there a couple of years ago, but I didn't see any of these two guys. Apparently, they came to blows over something, and then one of them had a heart attack.
Jeez. A little bit like Mr Rot and I arguing over \CD vs PDE. But we never got so excited.
Sivia looks like a stats guy. Not too impressive a resume, from what I can tell. How did he make it to Oxford?
Stats guys have a nonzero chance everywhere.
