Steyn, of course, is dead wrong on this.
The "longest" war has left a deep gouge which strikes right to the heart of this "Free Republic". It has demoralized our allies, and not only emboldened but brought into positions of great power our enemies, both foreign and domestic.
It gave us the Triumph of the Left, and the Triumph of Islam, and it revealed the emptiness of character and absence of belief among those who claimed leadership for our Republic, our Bill or Rights, our Constitution.
9/11 was, in the end, an unalloyed triumph for Islam, and for Socialism, and the immediate enough future will be but the cawing of these two carrion crows over the corpses of this nations and of the West.
