Natura non Natura est, O Olympiakos

Gattaca in service of "Citius, Altius, Fortius" .................................................................. Inevitable, it seems.

Extremely interesting. Can I have a turbocharged cerebral cortex?

Probably too late for us old codgers, Komraden. But how long before designer Schwingers come along? [Not designer Feynmans, though. Not sure there are specifiable genes for sheer originality and ingenuity as there may well be for sophisticated cleverness].

AA, about Feynman, the path-integral formulation of quantum mechanics is about the most beautiful idea i have seen that actually works. Then, the steepest descents computation is a great idea too.

On that note, Herr Rott, what would you suggest as "the most beautiful idea that does not yet work"? I'm not being facetious.
I don't mean "the most beautiful idea that could never work"..there's probably an ocean of choices for gilded dung....I mean those which you find both beautiful and bear hope will one day bear fruit.

The QED [one-loop] prediction [of the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron] agrees with the experimentally measured value to more than 10 significant figures, making the magnetic moment of the electron the most accurately verified prediction in the history of physics.

From Wiki.

Is that close enough for you, AA, or do you have something better than the most beautiful idea that does not yet work?

We're getting close to a dispute about the definition of "is" if nailing ten places is a theory that doesn't work.

I think that I misunderstood you, AA. I thought you were referring to mathematicians' failure after 50 years to bring rigor to Feynman's integral. Wiener measures don't do the job, as you know.

Beautiful ideas that don't work are many and include some "gems" of my own. I like Lagrangian mechanics of fields a lot but never worked as hard as I should have in QFT classes. I dreamed for years of coming up with something better. No dice, dammit.
