Oedipus Rex

...[Scro's] 2006 manifesto “The Audacity of Hope”, in which he envisioned a “new kind of politics,” reminds me of Wolfram's hubristic “New Kind of Science.” Both bring to mind the image of doting mothers and grandmothers for which little baby genius could do no wrong, but, in the end, just fool baby.

The new politics would favor consensus and common sense over divisiveness and ideology, and would build on “those shared understandings that pull us together as Americans.”

Specious feel-goodism at its most comical. Look up searchingly at the heavens with trance eyes.

The new politics never materialized. Shocka.

The president, to be sure, has no obligation to sacrifice his chances by eschewing tactics other politicians routinely use. But once he held himself to a higher standard. What happened?

Pure, perfect, third world baby Scro was corrupted by white devils. That's what!

No shit, Sherlock.
