Natalie Portman on Ethics
"I'm not convinced about marriage. Divorce is so easy, and that fact that gay people are not allowed to marry takes much of the meaning out of it. Committing yourself to one person is sacred."

Huh? Can you run this by me, one mo' time? I'm having trouble following the quantifiers and implications in Natalie's argument.
Here's one stab.
Because [1] Dissolution of a marriage is easy [which implies marriage is not about commitment] and [2] Gays are not allowed to marry [which implies marriage is not for the merriest amongst us]
Thus, there is very little meaning in marriage, concludes Natalie Portman,[implying that giving full reign to the merriest amongst us, and cracking down on this divorce thingee, are necessary for marriage to have meaning].
Hence, hints she, since Marriage has very little meaning she is not "convinced about it". Which is perhaps translated as "I spit on it, for the farce it is". Which implies she does not hold it in any great esteem, or respect it in any substantial way. Hence, for NP, marriage is not sacred.
Now[3] NP thinks committing to one person is sacred,
Ergo, claims NP, since marriage is not about committing to one person [heteros divorce easily, so no commitment on that team. Gays are not allowed to marry, so by default there are no committed marriages on that team], she is justified in seeing nothing sacred in marriage.
However, as soon as Divorce is banned, and Gays embrace in legal matrimony, then she loses her justification for seeing nothing sacred in marriage and [unless there is more in her argument] she should then be convinced about marriage.
A Harvard undergrad mind is never wasted....you just have to rescue it from itself now and then.
Hence, concludes Natalie Portman "I'm dubious about marriage". I'm not convinced about marriage. Divorce is so easy, and that fact that gay people are not allowed to marry takes much of the meaning out of it. Committing yourself to one person is sacred."
The lass shines brilliantly like a mole in a coal mine
she is real pretty, though. might be worth all that PC blather
Besides, any gal who carries such a mean pistol is hard to say no to.
Doesn't JJ carry a mean pistol, too?
Maybe that's the one for you, JJ?
