Ken Adelman as Obamaniac? Pinch me so I'll believe it. I remember him as one of the happy warriors in the Reagan times -- was there is the trenches towards the end of the Cold War. I cannot argue with his reasons (I had exactly the same criticisms of McCain), but, c'mon, Ken, this is a stretch. Why not simply go for a walk on Election Day? Just put your head in the sand -- what else can one do in this situation?
Kraut: But the barbarians will still be at the gates. Whom do you want on the parapet? I'm for the guy who can tell the lion from the lamb. Isn't that who, not whom? I myself, would rather go with Constantine Palaeologus on the parapet.
Run this by me, one more time, JJ. I liked Kraut's column: it's very well written, sincere, even poignant. Swan song for an era? On the other hand, you cannot lump together all those cons (neo, paleo, ex-, whatever) who are jumping ship. I will not defend Powell -- the reasons he gave on TV are just bs. But Adelman looks honest, albeit conflicted.
At any rate, how's the base holding? The NYT says that now Obama is running ahead even among white men. If Joe the Plumber ends up voting for him, he'll end up with a Kim Il Jong type of majority, sweeping along Al Franken and all the random pinkos running out there (heck, Pepe would win in such a situation, were he to run, even in Alabama).
As I said, we may as well tune out. Which is precisely what they want.
I don't understand what you've said. I think Adelman is a self-indulgent little fool. I am not interested in his inner conflicts. I think Obama and huge majorities in Congress are dangerous.
Preempting Pepe, I think huge filibuster-proof Republican majorities wold be dangerous as well.
This is worse, however, and it is no time for high-profile 'patriots' to be supporting this obviously very very flawed candidate.
What do you want to bet that Barney Frank gets reelected, too?
I don't disagree with you, though I take exception calling Ken Adelman a fool. Maybe he's going gaga in his old age, but he was sharp as a razor in the 1980s, from what I remember. As for Barney, he, like all the other politicos in the Bay State, is elected for life. I'm not even sure there is a campaign going on -- why bother?

Ideological purity dies in the sand, AI. That's why Karl Obama will win and Brooks and the other wrecklers will die.

It is a catastrophe. Unmitigated, AI. I never thought democracy was such a bad idea.
