I don't know, Tecumseh. I suspect it has much more to do with the character of the Church, and what aspect of your being that character calls upon. In my opinion, for example, embracing the Church of Thomas Aquinas is very different from embracing the Church of Rowan Williams, nevermind the Church of Torquemada......nevermind the Church of Mohammed or that of the Thuggees..... nevermind the Church of Marx.
Obviously Obama went to something called church that Jefferson and Madison would have considered a real church, but is really a hucksterish pile of political dogshit aimed at morons that want to get even.

Rejecting self-respect ain't the same as rejecting the Church. Embracing the Church ain't the same as embracing self-respect.
Perhaps. But the correlation between the two is positive, and quite high.

And what role self-respect plays in embracing the Church of Aquinas, vs the Church of Mohammed, for example, are two wildly different things.
When I say the Church, I mean ours.
