The Darkroom said...: This exemplifies perfectly the total fuck up that everything in this war is. If anyone on the planet deserves to be hung, it is saddam. But the repeated intervention of the iraqi executive with the judcial process has given this trial a veneer of impropriety while saddam has somewhat successfully hidden behind the argument that the massacres were part of a legitimate defense against the iranians.

The result is that rather than sending the message that a ruthless dictator is being punished, the court looked like a kangaroo court and will create a martyr. Making a martyr out of saddam! Not a small achievement.; 11/05/2006 12:19 PM

That being said, it's always been obvious that the effort at transforming iraq in a democracy was little more than a face-saving soundbite after the wmd disaster - and what better proof of american contempt for the ideals they profess than the patent highjacking of the iraqi judicial system to benefit the republican electoral agenda?

Pepe, everyone is a hypocrite. But I suppose your visceral hatred towards anything "Republican" supplants any kind of desire to understand what it is that Classical Liberals really want for America, and the world.

Anyhow, you're passing off an assumed definition as to why I support the military. When I talk with the soldiers, they overwhelmingly agree that Saddam is a bad man. They say, "He's a bad man. He's not good." That the first decision to execute this bad man comes around the time of the elections is, in my opinion, coincidental. You were the one to politicize it.

It's always been obvious that you wish nothing but doom and destruction for America, Pepe. I get my information by chatting with soldiers, individually, as friends and family. You get yours from the automatic Michael Moore and Co. Good for you, Pepe. Good for you.

I have no hatred for republicans and agree with them on quite a few economy-related topics.

If you talked with someone for a couple months about, oh, let's say Subject X, and that someone had nothing positive or constructive to say about Subject X other than "Subject X is getting what it deserves!!!" then you too would believe that that person despised and wished doom for Subject X.

Yes, I've read a few studies where Marxists — even vulgar Marxism — tends to be in accord with 19th-century Republican economic thought. Stuff about individual Anglo-Americans being able to flee from the "pressures" of the city to the idyllic yeoman setting of the American West.
